Today is a great day (even though I am sick)...it's Monday which means there's a H{ippity} Hop! I was working hard last week at creating a couple of cards for the Ippity challenge. We were to use buttons on our cards! HOORAY!! I love using buttons!
My first card was created for a dear friend. She recently lost her husband, and I thought this card was perfect for her. I love the watermark stamp below. I used Unity's August KOTM and Ippity's Just Wanted to Say set for the sentiment. I love the colors of this card! **NOTE:: This card is featured today on the Limelight Papercrafts blog!!! HOORAY!
For my second card...I couldn't resist--chickens and I go way back! THE STORY: Growing up, I lived on a 5 acre farm where we had cows, pigs, goats, sheep, geese, cats, dogs, and of course, chickens. We (mostly my brother Carrel and parents) raised them for fresh eggs and meat. Now I know that this sounds weird...but I loved when we would get to kill the chickens. It was an all day event. I would go into the details--but that is kind of gross. I didn't necessarily like to kill them...I liked to pull out the feathers. Plus, I think I got really good at slicing up the meat. So chickens and I are friends...kind of. I also remember taking them to the 4H fair! OH the fun! Carrel would raise them, and he let me take two to the fair with eggs. Holding chickens to be judged was NOT fun! Well....skip ahead about ten years....while I was dating Trav, I would regularly talk to his grandparents. While talking to them, I would ask, "What's up?" And one of them (not sure which...but I think Poppie) would say, "Chicken Butt." So it grew into a nickname for Poppie. And now for any holiday or birthday...I try to get him ANYTHING with chickens. I also make him chickens in a jar for Christmas. I put a chicken (that I made or a TY baby) in a jar with either fake snow or sand and dress it up. So when I had to use buttons....I HAD to use the Ippity set Simply Home and put fake eggs below the chicken. This was actually Poppie's 2nd Christmas card this year. **NOTE:: The second pic is what a normal gift for Poppie might look like. Not the story you thought it would be....but like I said...chickens and I go way back!
Some of you might remember this card--I made it about three months ago. Several people have commented that they didn't know I used buttons on this card--they are miniature white buttons. I LOVE it! I used MME DP and the Simply Home Ippity set. I wanted to use buttons on the sheep....but they didn't look right. So I stamped on top of them with embossing ink and then tied white thread to make it look like wool. TOO cute! Here is a close up of the buttons.
GOOD NEWS~ remember this card:
It was featured over on Ippity's blog yesterday!! Kelly Landers featured it for her Sunday Favs! ACK! TOO cool. Kelly is sooooo creative! THANK YOU, KELLY! You rock:}
Be sure to go to the Ippity blog to check out the other awesome creations for the H{ippity} Hop! And don't forget to leave some love for all of the gals!
That reminds me...I'm having a blog candy giveaway in Feburary...but I would like to give something else out before that. So....if I get to 25 followers (on this blog- not including my last blog)....then I will do a drawing. Be sure to sign up to follow! The sooner the better--and then more giveaways as my follower list grows!
Well..that is it for me today. I am hoping to share more this week of my Unity and Ippity creations...I've got a whole sketch book full of cards that I want to make!!
Thanks for stopping by! Be sure to wash your hands because I don't want to spread my germs! Hope you have a great day!

ReplyDeletelove your cards AND your story!! I grew up on a farm too, we had pigs, chickens, geese (which I loved because they hated my sister and cousin and would chase them and sometimes even circle them - it was hilarious) we killed our chickens too but I hated plucking them!! the SMELL!!! I took my pigs to 4H and actually won! More because most of the kids can't do well showing pigs but mine were always more like pets so I could show them :) Good Memories!!
