All Things Unity #15 {Scrap PINK}

Hello, friends!

Today starts another challenge over at All Things Unity! I love using my Unity and Ippity stamps--so this is a great challenge for me:}

This two week challenge is::: scrap PINK! Our friend and leader, Sara, will be teaching her first class at a crop named "Scrap Pink" in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness. October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month, and this year is the 25th anniversary of this event.

I have always supported cancer research, but this summer it hit a bit closer to home for me. I have a dear friend {only 25} who was diagnosed with breast cancer. She had a double mastectomy and is undergoing treatment. It tears me up inside--she is such a wonderful person and so strong. Good news is that she is doing great--she looks and feels great!! Praise God! I thank God that she found it early and that she is doing well. Because of her courage and strength....I'm dedicating this post to her! And she was my inspiration for these cards! So THANK YOU, J!!!

My first card was created using a soft pink, maroon, and brown palette. I love this paper--I've been wanting to use it for a couple of months! I created a tag and stamped a tag image [I think that is what this is called] from Unity's Garden Variety. I masked the sentiment inside the image so it was blank. The butterfly is from Unity's Life Becoming. I used metallic cream and pink for the body with silver gems. The sentiment is from Unity's April KOTM. I just love the way this card turned out (inspired by Kandis Smith). LOVE it!
My next card was created for a male--men can get breast cancer too! We used blue on our cards for men. I liked using blue....but I added in a hint of yellow/green and tan. I just thought this made the card pop more:) I love the way this card turned out--it came together fairly quickly (inspired by Melanie Douthit). I love that sentiment tag--one side with a lighter tan! So clever!! Wish I would have thought of that:) I used Ippity's Just Wanted To Say stamp set for the sentiment. And that string was cream before I tied it on the card! I used my dew drop chalk ink to dye it. I think it looks AWESOME:} I love this card! LOVE LOVE LOVE it! **NOTE:: I just remembered that Card of the Week has a "thinking of you" challenge--this is perfect!! And masculine:) LOVE IT!
I also wanted to share with you that I recently donated my hair to Locks of Love. I have been wanting to do this for awhile--and I'm so glad that I did! I encourage you to do it too! **NOTE::: I am still getting used to short hair--and I think I might need to visit the saloon every Friday for them to do my hair! I just don't know how to use a curling or flat iron!
Before and After--with hairdresser Debbie (isn't she fabulous!!}
I was trying to get a picture of my hair after Debbie did it--running out of daylight...taking a pic by myself...silly plants in the way! Oh well! Maybe I will visit her again soon and take a pic then:}

That's it for me today! Be sure to stop by all the other All Things Unity DT members' blogs! So creative and such wonderful cards to celebrate this wonderful event!

Way to go, a true inspiration! Good to hear your friend is now doing good, I've had too much experience as well, with cancer with friends and family. 14. Savannah, I love your beautiful cards. And I love that you donated your long hair. My hair is gray and fairly long but wispy. However, when I checked the requirements for donating hair, I didn't qualify. The rules are so stringent concerning food, meds, length, thickness and so forth. I thought older women, like myself, would be the ones more often needing wigs since breast cancer strikes older women at a greater proportion. But hooray for you! You're a trooper. Your hair will grow back, if you want to let it. You look terrific in short hair, though.
