Rainbow Hugs🌈

Hello and welcome back, sweet friends ❤️

I've been having so much fun getting back into the studio!! I recently discovered alcohol inks and have made over 10 cards with all the backgrounds that I created. It was fun and easy to do. I hope to share most of my creations this week:)

This card was created last in the bunch but I wanted to share it first. LOL!
I worked with a rainbow set of colors (listed below) and used a straw to blow the inks around/to dry them. I am really liking this rainbow design 🌈 I also added some gold shimmer to the inks, as well as some gold foil as the inks were drying. You can see some of the shine in the photo below.
To be honest, I wasn't sure of this background design at first. I had to think about what I wanted to make for about a day. Then it hit me- a vellum rainbow with a sentiment and gold hearts. 🙃 I stamped the sentiment right on the die cut rainbow and then added it to the card. I finished this card with a few gold hearts, another sentiment, and a white thread/bow. EASY! And sooooooooooooo pretty!
The only thing I don't like about this card... the clear foam behind the vellum. There isn't anything I can do about that. It's CLEAR foam but you can still see it. Eh. That's a minor detail! LOL!

Thanks so much for stopping by! And thank you for leaving me some love on my posts!!! You make my day! THANK YOU!

I hope you will stop back by later this week for more inspiration and alcohol ink creations! Be blessed ❤️

SCT Publication Reject... but there's a reason why :)

Hello, sweet friends!

THANK YOU for leaving me some love on my last post! I really appreciate it ❤️

As you know, it's been several years since I have submitted any cards or really had time in my studio (I barely get an hour or two a week now). Well, I'm trying to change that! It's my goal to submit creations per quarter in 2021. I don't care if they get picked up or showcased in a magazine. I just want to challenge myself to create again.

My first opportunity to submit for a magazine was in January for the Scrapbook and Cards Today magazine!!! That was until I missed the deadline 🤦🏼‍♀️ GOOD NEWS!!!! SCT extended their deadline by a week or so--- HOOOOORAY!

I had a few ideas of what I wanted to do for this submission, and I was able to create one project- haven't heard back so it's probably a reject as well. Oh well! LOL! The following card was also for this submission call and I already know it's a reject because...
I missed the second deadline! 🤦🏼‍♀️ Oh well. I had so much fun getting crafty.

This card was inspired by a graphic design image I saw on Pinterest for an app, Pixo??? I've never heard of it and I can't click the graphic because it pulls up random stuff. Either way, I found inspiration in this photo.

I used the sentiment and heart as my inspiration. I used all The Stamp Market dies, stamps, inks, and papers for this card (supply list below). I absolutely love love love it!
I know rejection is hard. But I'm not looking at it the way I used to- it's more of a WIN-WIN for me. I have a goal to submit each quarter. I completed this goal once already- WIN ✅ And if the cards are rejected then I have an extra card to sell or give away- WIN ✅

That's it for me today. MORE is coming!!! I have a few more projects using the Etc. Papers Synthetic EVO Papers and alcohol inks, as well as the other reject card!!!

THANKS so much for stopping by! I can't wait to share more of my creations with you each week. #itsgoodtobeback

Be blessed ❤️

ETC Papers: Synthetic EVO Paper 🌈

Hello, sweet friends! Welcome back!

I am so happy to be back in the studio! I have soooooooooo much to share, but I won't overwhelm you with it all at once 🙃 My goal (you might have read about several goals in my last post) is to post two or three times a week. I have a few ideas of what I want to post about so be on the lookout for more crafty goodness coming soon!

Today I am thrilled to share that I was asked to create some projects using the Etc. Papers Synthetic EVO Papers. Synthetic EVO Paper is beautiful- it's smooth, easy to cut, and when you use it with alcohol inks the results are STUNNING! *I'll add a photo of this beautiful white paper once I get home today!

SAVfact: I've never worked with alcohol inks until last week😬 I had no idea what I was doing. I went out and bought some pretty ink colors and started playing around with the Synthetic EVO Papers. I went for bold colors my first round- straight up solid, one color... with some gold and shimmer added:)
I knew immediately I wanted to create a rainbow using my practice sheets- Never throw anything away!!! LOL!
I pulled out The Stamp Market 3x3 rainbow cover die and started mixing and matching my die cut rainbows to create a beautiful arc. There was only one problem- I only had 6 bold, solid alcohol inks samples created... I needed a 7th! That's when I got the idea to pull out some Etc. Papers Holographic papers to complete my arc 👍🏻
Supplies listed below

I had so much fun playing with my alcohol inks making bold colors that quickly after making these cards I felt that I was "experienced" enough to start mixing more colors/etc. 🙃 I have three or four more cards to share later this month that will show a mixture of colors and even just a mix of color hues. I'm in love love looooooooooove with all of these samples! Here's a sneak peek.

THANKS so much for stopping by! I can't wait to share more of my creations with you each week. #itsgoodtobeback

Be blessed ❤️

A (quick) reflection of 2020 and goals for 2021

Oh sweet friends! ❤️❤️❤️

I have missed sharing my creations and life with you!!! It's been four months of silence on my blog. It's been way too long ❤️ 2020 was a hard year, but it wasn't because of COVID. **LONG story below about 2020... keep reading because I also share a few goals that I have for 2021.

Olsen Bebo passed away in March. That was hard. SOOOOOOOOOOO hard. Harder than when we had to surrender Olly Hamilton- I thought that was tough! I love both pups so much.

I took a sabbatical from my blog after Kim ended Paper Smooches. That was hard for me. I can't begin to express the difficulty and loss I felt when PS closed their doors. *You can read about it HERE. **NOTE: I'm so happy for Kim:)

But 98% of 2020 was hard because I have been in a depression. I wasn't diagnosed with it; I just know. It set in HARD and wouldn't go away. All because of one situation- I lost hope. I wanted to die- literally thought about ending it all (scariest night of my life). I was confused and didn't know if what I thought was "true" was "truth" because it didn't make sense anymore. Everything I believed in was turned upside down and questioned. Everything I tried to achieve and succeed at was torn from me, thrown at me, and questioned- questioned more than necessary, making it more like belittling than supporting or loving. Things were said to me that didn't connect or line up, which made my head spin all the more. There was soooooooo much stress, unnecessary stress too. Why? Why did this happen? It happened because... well, I can't tell you the whole story. Plus, I don't know God's purpose for that situation just yet (not sure I ever will). All I can tell you is that I had a depression that took me out, down, and to be honest, I'm not sure I am out of the pit just yet. #reallife

It's been hard to function. I didn't eat for three weeks. I might have had a total of three very small meals in that time if you gathered everything I ate. I lost 20 lbs- definitely NOT the way I want to lose weight. I didn't sleep. Cried the whole time. Didn't talk much to Trav or to anyone really. We couldn't. There wasn't anyone we could tell due to the people involved/etc.

During the fourth week, I fainted and blacked out and that night was the first time I ate. And I haven't stopped since. I understand that you might think that is a good step... but not really. I gained 45 lbs back. Laziness and hopelessness became really good friends of mine. Food has been my comfort instead of Jesus. My heart just can't rejoice and I find sadness setting in during the day and confusion/fear/depression setting in at night. Because I don't understand the situation I find that sometimes I play certain things over and over- all because it doesn't make sense. I can't make sense of any of it. It's truly heartbreaking.

I feel horrible for Trav. He:
1️⃣ experienced this event with me, and since we are "joined as one" (as the Bible states), he felt it too
2️⃣ had to deal with me- trying to take care of me when he had no sleep, his gut hurt due to the emotions/etc.
3️⃣ walked through the most unexpected and difficult decision we have had to make
4️⃣ AND he had to deal with COVID and work the ENTIRE time- he is a pharmacist which means healthcare and working through/exposed to it all.

It's been hard.

Never in my life did I think I would be HERE. My head hurts just thinking about this past year, this situation, the heartache and pain...

Now... I know you might think this list is short and that I'm being a "pessimist"... but I try to be positive. I try to see God's hand and His purpose in my version of 2020. This list is small, but here are some of the blessings from this year:
  • Finn Lee O'Gwynn was adopted- what a blessing!
  • Trav and I spent more time together since we couldn't go anywhere
  • Trav and I accomplished a HUGE goal (I might share more specifically about this one day)
  • The Lord provided for us as we worked towards this goal- it amazed us each and every day!
  • The Lord protected (and continues to protect) us from the virus
  • We have spent more time with our neighbors and have really enjoyed getting to know them better
  • I started working on my AEA certificate and teaching water aerobics again
  • I quit my job and remembered just how much I love being at home, being a wife, and cooking and crafting (I thought for a long time that God wanted me to give up crafting- not so! It was actually the other way around!)
2020 was chaotic and full of confusion. 2021 comes with a fresh slate. A fresh start. I have "high hopes" for this new year. That's why I am going back to what I know works for me. I am creating my goals again- it's been at least three years since I wrote out yearly goals (and I *LIVE* for goals, lists, organization, schedules, etc.).

Here are a few of my 2021 goals:
  • Read 15 minutes every night (any book)
  • Read 12 books- biblical studies, biographies, etc.
  • Finish reading through the Bible- I'm almost half way there!
  • Memorize the OT books (I memorized the NT in 2020)
  • Complete my AEA certification by May----> please pray for this! I am in chapter 2... STILL!!!
  • Workout 3-5x a week
    • Cardio 3x
    • Trainer 3x
    • Bike with Trav 3x
    • Walk with Finn daily :)
  • Complete the RevWell Sugar Fast
  • Create at least one card a week, one Christmas card a month
  • Write 3 blogs a week
  • Share a crafting video (on IGTV or YouTube) weekly- nothing fancy, just a start and finish or a tip or whatever
  • Submit creations for publications (it's been almost 5 years!)
  • Work with a crafting company
  • Give Savannahland2 a makeover- new graphics, new watermark, new everything!
  • Sew one item/thing a month
  • Take a monthly photo of Trav and I, and maybe even Finn too:)
  • Serve homemade treats to neighbors and friends monthly
  • Have one family over for dinner each month
  • Continue to make 8 or more new recipes each month
I have MOOOOOOOOOORE. If you know me, then you know that each of these goals have subgoals and lists 🙃 LOL!

(sigh)

I don't think I will ever really get over this situation/event from 2020. But I'm going to try to look forward and UP. I have been looking down for too long. God doesn't want me to look down and be depressed any more. Look up, Sav- God's got a plan. He has a purpose. He will bring you through this fire and you shall come forth as gold (Job 23:10). It's not going to be easy, and it probably won't look like you want it to. Trust Him. Seek Him. Pray. Listen and obey when He speaks. You can because He's not finished yet (Phil. 1:6).

THANKS for sticking with me.
THANKS for your continued support, love, and encouragement.
Here's to a better year!

TONS of love ❤️ HUGS HUGS HUGS, Sav

ps... I know this was a long post! THANKS for making it this far ❤️❤️

Paper Smooches- A Blog Hug and Final Farewell

Hello friends:)
I'm joining in the fun with a few super talented friends today- it's a blog hug (like a blog hop) in honor of Paper Smooches' creator and owner, Kim! Be sure to stop by all the blogs and leave some love for Kim.

Today's post has been one that I've been thinking about since Kim announced that she was closing the Paper Smooches shop. This is my FINAL OFFICAL Paper Smooches project and post. Below is my story and the card I created for Kim. **It might be a long story, but I tried to keep it short!

My story: I followed Kim the moment I saw her creations featured in the magazines and when she was a Paper Crafts Go To Gal. I loved her whimsical designs and fun creations. I was hooked and immediately signed up for her monthly stamp program when she started her company Paper Smooches. Kim had a challenge blog and had a design team call in September of 2011. I decided to submit a card and that's when my entire crafting career changed forever!

I submitted THIS card for the design team call and won a spot on Kim's first SPARKS challenge team! What an honor! I'm still in shock that I was picked to be a part of Kim's team! ❤️

Here's a fun breakdown of a couple of things that I've done using PS stamps/dies/stencils and accomplished while working for Kim and PS:
  • I have worked with Kim and PS for 9.75 years
  • I have 98% of Kim's product. I'm missing only a few stamp sets.
  • I have been published over 100 times, at least 90% using PS stamps/dies
  • Each year I number my cards; back in 2011 I made over 500 cards! I have made an estimated 1500 cards and 1350 of those cards using PS goodies!!!
    • If you can't tell, I was in LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE with my PS stamps and dies!
    • I cannot begin to tell you which card is my favorite, but I can tell you when and where and how I was inspired for each card! I remember details like that:)
  • I started creating weekly videos for Kim's Virtual Smooches blog on March 6, 2013.
    • HERE is my first video
    • I created 170 videos for VS... and at least 25 for Imagine Crafts (featured on their YouTube channel) where I used their inks and ALL Paper Smooches stamps/dies
    • Each video (for the first two years) would take around 22 hours to record, edit, take photos, upload, and write the blog post!
    • Travis and Olsen were a BIG part of the VS team- Trav wrote the music to my videos (after I was banned from multiple countries using a song by Kari Jobe... copyright issues! LOL! Who knew?!) and Olsen would bark almost every time I hit the record button. LOL!
    • Here are some of my FAVORITE videos:
  • I have had at least 5 different backgrounds for my photos... and I *STILL* haven't figured out how to take a good photo! LOL!
  • Kim asked me to be the Design Team Coordinator starting in April 2012 (HERE), and EVERY. SINGLE. CHALLENGE. it was sooooooooooo hard picking winners!
  • I *FINALLY* met Kim when I went out to CHA (a few years back)! I stayed with her and had so much fun!!! I even got to craft in her studio- OH MY! I never wanted to leave:)
  • And finally... one of my dreams came true working for Kim! It's been an honor working with Kim in so many ways!
This list isn't even everything... but I figured I'd stop so I could show you my card that I created for Kim❤️ I went back to my roots and comfort zone of using pattered paper and mixing and matching stamps/dies for this card.
I have two hands (my hands) hugging a heart- my way of saying THANKS to Kim! I don't think there are enough words to express my gratitude. THANKS, Kim! I am forever grateful that you picked me- THANKS for believing in me ❤️
That's it for me today but there are more creations and projects on the other gals' blogs!

Thanks for stopping by ❤️ I hope you have a blessed day!
Sav

ps... THANKS to Jill and JJ for putting this blog hug/hop together! And THANKS to the PS Design Team and Challenge Team members that I have been able to work with over the years! WOW--- what a talented group of ladies! I have been inspired by each of you❤️

**Paper Smooches: June 15-28 ANYTHING GOES Challenge #1

Hello, friends:)

It has been quite some time since I've posted. Lots has happened in the last few months including COVID-19, losing Olsen, taking a sabbatical from work, a bit of depression and anxiety which brought on some weight loss and then I gained most of it back as my appetite came back 🤦🏼‍♀️....

It has been a hard year.

Well, it was time...I finally took some time for myself. It was super fun getting into the studio on Friday last week with Finn- he's my little helper (sometimes). We wanted to make a card for Trav for Father's Day. LONG story but Trav and I both thought this holiday was yesterday! LOL We celebrate all weekend how much Finn loves his Daddy with gifts and fun dinners/etc, as well as a card:)
We (Finn and I) created this simple card for the Paper Smooches June Anything Goes challenge. I say this card was simple... but it really wasn't! I'll tell you why:
  1. I messed up this card 2x! I neeeeeed to get better white cardsotck- it makes marks for everything (i.e. bad gluing and removing it tears it up, picking it up creases it, glue residue doesn't come out no matter what you do and no matter what glue eraser you use!)
  2. I had to die cut several sentiments to create PAWESOME.... which now that I think about it... I should have spelled it PAWSOME🤦🏼‍♀️
  3. This was Finn's idea and all he did was sleep! #notagoodhelper NOTE: He sleeps to my left, under a window and right next to my most important and used cabinet. I had to rearrange everything in my cabinets so that he could sleep peacefully without me trying to get into that cabinet. The things I do for this pup! LOL!
Even though I had mistakes aplenty and no help from Finn and even spelled the word wrong on the finished project---- I love this card:)

Fun things about this card: the charm is die cut from leather, the sentiment is paper pieced and the letter P is actually a G.
PS stamps/dies/stencils used include: Charms dies, Amazing & Awesome dies, Tiny Hearts dies, Sportsball

That's it for me today. I hope you create something for our challenge-- you could win a gift certificate to the PS store! Be sure to stop by HERE to link up and play along:)

THANKS so much for stopping by! Be blessed:)

Paper Smooches: March ANIMAL Challenge #1 + Olsen's Last Post

Hello, friends:)

Olsen's Last Post: The past few weeks have been super hard for Trav and I as we lost our pup, Olsen Bebo O'Gwynn, on Thursday, March 5, 2020. He was exactly 11 years 10 months old. His health had been declining the last month, but it really got worse the last week. He started drinking a lot of water and not wanting to go on walks. We took him to the vet and they ran some tests, which resulted in Olsen taking thyroid medication since they thought it had to do with his thyroid or Cushings disease. A week later, he had completely stopped eating, no energy (even though he slept all day), and he started breathing super heavy. I took him to the vet for x-rays and they found fluid in his lungs. They took more x-rays and found that his kidney was enlarged (3x the bone size that they compare it to) and that his stomach was being pushed (possibly by a tumor on his liver). We had the vet perform a procedure to drain his lungs thinking it would help, but it was unsuccessful. We took him home but decided early on Thursday morning it was time since his quality of life wasn't great.

Hardest thing I had to do.
I miss him so much.
This was the last photo of him in my studio with me. He wasn't feeling good at all.❤️

That being said... it's been emotionally hard to work in my studio this month. But I managed to find some time to create two cards in his honor. Both are animal themed and fit our new Paper Smooches March ANIMAL challenge theme.
This first card was created for Trav- hardest card I ever created. This pup from the PS Woofers & Tweeters stamp set reminds me of Olsen so much. ❤️

I created two of the next card- one for each of my brothers and their families. Leander (my older brother) and Carrel (pronounced CARL; my younger brother) sent us sympathy cards. Their love during this difficult time was much needed, and I wanted to send them a "thank you" for thinking of us.
PS stamps/dies/stencils used include: Lucky Dog Two, Dog Icons (retired)

I'm sorry my photos are so blurry- both cards are Olsen through and through ❤️

That's it for me today. I hope you create something for our challenge-- you could win a gift certificate to the PS store! Be sure to stop by HERE to link up and play along:)

THANKS so much for stopping by! Be blessed:)

I really love how this project turned out using the NEW PS Swoosh stencil! Instead of using a stencil with inks, watercolor, or paste, I decided to go a different route- SEWING:)
You should definitely try stitching a stencil design or stitching on cardstock because it is super easy! Here are a few steps of how I created this card.
Step 1: Tape down your stencil (or use Pixie Dust spray or another adhesive to make sure your stencil stays in place)
Step 2: Trace the stencil image LIGHTLY using a pencil
Step 3: Stitch the image using multiple stitch lengths **For curves and tight areas I lowered the stitch to a 2 or 1.5; For other lines I had the stitch length at at 3. Be sure to go slow when stitching on paper!!
Use a pair of scissors to cut off the excess thread
Step 4: Lightly remove pencil markings (my favorite brush to remove eraser tidbits is a make-up brush! LOL!) **Be careful not to push too hard with your eraser- you could crinkle the paper or pull a thread.
Step 5: Finish card using embellishments, stamped sentiments, ribbons, etc!

I decided to cut this card down a bit and add a few clear droplets by The Stamp Market. This card was super easy to make, and I love how it turned out!
PS stamps/dies/stencils used include: Swoosh stencil, Sympathy Sampler

Being sick for most of the month of January was awful 😷🤧 and resulted in me to not being able to play in my studio until this past weekend. Let me tell you ---I had SOOOOOOOOOOOO much fun designing and creating with my new PS goodies!

For my project today, I created a fun birthday card for a friend using the NEW PS Happy Hellos stamp set.
I was inspired by THIS traveler notebook layout by Ashley Horton (2018). I love how this little birdie looks watercolored in a bright yellow! I think I might color him green next time🐦 **That's as close to a green bird emoji I could find! LOL!
